Plastic Compilation

Volume 1

Nettwerk

Perhaps it says something that I went out and bought this CD to review. Then again, maybe it doesn’t. Regardless, a few months ago I heard a beautiful remix of Sarah McLachlan while relaxing at a club with some friends. One of the best I’ve heard in a long time. So when I saw its glossy cover staring at me from the shelf, I had to have a copy. It’s filled with some of the best songs and remixes from Underworld, Meat Beat Manifesto, Sully, Garbage, and of course two of Sarah McLachlan. The Garbage remix is done by Rabbit in the Moon, and warps the original “Queer” into something completely unrecognizable. It’s amazing how far this genre has come from the old school days of house, even if everyone without an appreciation for the form calls it “hypnotic skip music.” Since Nettwerk has labeled it Volume 1, I’m crossing my fingers for volumes two through ten.
