The Bogues

Good Clean Fun

Casino/Ichiban

The Bogues have released far too few albums, with far too much time in between. Their sound is not entirely new, though admittedly it has already seen its popularity wax and wane a couple of times. Reminiscent of the Nick Lowe/Dave Edmunds/Wreckless Eric school of guitar pop, the band delivers on the album’s title, delivering several tracks guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. The obviousness of “Wood (Wood is Good),” the irony of the instrumental “Channel Surf,” “Mr. Slydell,” an update on “Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter” and the good-natured clumsy lifting of riffs from “Roadrunner” to form “Shower Massage” are all moments that make me pause and grin. Good Clean Fun is an album that manages to win me over every time without fail, and I’ve yet to grow tired of its charming nature. Casino Music, P.O. Box 724677, Atlanta, GA 31139-1677
