Autour De Lucie

If you don’t eat quiche, you’ll want to stop reading now, and search out a death metal review elsewhere in this section. For the rest of you, this is Autour de Lucie’s sophomore release, in which they struggle to escape the French band phenomenon of mediocrity that they seemed sadly destined for with their self-titled debut a year or two ago. Yet here they are again. For their next trick, our Parisian friends have augmented the guitar ratio and taken a minimalist approach, which helps distance them by a couple of centimeters from their somewhat flossy marshmallow appeal. It’ll be interesting to see where they go next, but in the meantime, this works for me, and can be especially useful during those wistful moments of pining for the old country.
