Sacred Reich
Still Ignorant (1987-1997)
Metal Blade
In the days of my radio show, Brainhammer!, I’d always manage to get a Sacred Reich song on, if only to satisfy the dudes who’d call up every week and demand that I play “Surf Nicaragua.”
Still Ignorant is a live recording of a recent gig at the Mason Jar in Phoenix, Arizona. It’s pretty clear that Sacred Reich are dedicated to playing their brand of speed metal as this recording’s set list highlights the band’s efforts over the last ten years. As mentioned above, “Surf Nicaragua,” the jingoist celebration of total American dominance of the world during the Reagan/Bush years is included as well as their equally brutal, kick-to-the-head of liberal pukes, “American Way.” In addition to their interestingly meaningful metal anthems like “The Power of the Written Word,” “One Nation,” and “Blue Suit, Brown Shirt,” Sacred Reich plays a pretty mean headbanging version of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs,” too. All metalheads should feel gratified that Sacred Reich is continuing their ripping legacy.
