Joel R.L. Phelps

The Downer Trio

Pacifico

I’m not sure who plays on this – Mr. Phelps (from Silkworm?) or The Downer Trio. There are five songs, some attributed to the Trio, one to Phelps and a couple of covers. If you can decipher the meaning behind the beautiful packaging, chances are you already know all about this. The music is laid-back yet filled with emotion. A cover of “Emerald City” adds to the frustration – who did that originally? The version here is plaintive and heart-wrenching. This is an album that poses more questions than it answers, but it’s still worth listening to. Pacifico, 1916 Pike Place #12-730, Seattle, WA 98101
