Brown Eyed Susans

Afternoon Tea

Permanent Press

The first time I listened to this disc, I had to check the copyright date. No, it didn’t show the late Sixties, but it could. I haven’t heard candy-coated retro like this since back when it wasn’t retro.

Afternoon Tea is a real kick. Their harmonies and hooks are straight from Boyce & Hart, the Association, and the Monkees. However, this isn’t a tongue-in-cheek novelty band; this is the real stuff. They have the beats, the chord patterns, hooks, and harmony lines down cold. This is fun. Permanent Press Recordings, 14431 Ventura Blvd, #311, Sherman Oaks CA 91423
