Peter Thomas Sound Orchestra
FutureMuzik
Scamp
Listened to by itself, FutureMuzik comes across as a less-exciting Vampyros Lesbos. Those familiar with Vampyros Lesbos’ Teutonic Jazz-Rock-Funk B-movie soundtrack brew will agree that it is possible to be less exciting than VL and still torch the boxers out of a lot of things. Thomas is credited as one of the most influential composers of the German soundtrack scene during his two-decade reign, and as the sticker proudly proclaims, this “[features] Siegfried Schwab, lead guitarist/composer of Vampyros Lesbos” Soundwise, this evokes images of carefree upper-class living, rather than steamy tawdriness, but the original and distinctive arrangements, which mix syrupy string sections with rattling drums, eerie synthesizers and spiky guitar, are quite fascinating. The kooky take on “Carmen” sounds like it could come out of your grandparents’ console stereo, but check out the gritty dark sound of “Theme for Airport.” Gushing liner notes by Combustible Edison’s The Millionaire.
