Wicked Farleys

Sentinel and Enterprise

Big Top

Andrew Chadwick told me about math rock once, between fits of emo gibberish. The premise behind math rock is the complex and tenacious nature of the compositions. Treacherous time changes, subtle tempo shifts, abrupt melodic transitions…

In the realm of math rock, I would place this with geometry. The combinations of elements and concepts shift between jagged and linear, but the overall effect is one of self-reference, as the Wicked Farleys manage to assemble a sound whose components are the sound itself. This is music to frustrate toe-tapping and evening whistling, but the results are still vividly detailed and catchy. Fans of complicated rock take notice!
