Opcode has a brand new line of affordable products designed for the newly developed USB (Universal Serial Bus) computer interface protocol. The first product in this Opcode USB product line is the DATport (list price under $200) audio interface that creates a high-quality two-channel digital link between any external digital S/PDIF audio device (DAT machines, digital multi-track recorders, MiniDisc systems and front-end A/D converters) and any USB-compatible computer (of which there will be many on the market in the coming months available on both Macintosh and Windows platforms). The great news, besides the price and ease of interface, is the fact that you won’t need to install any cards or any IRQs or DMAs. Hell, you don’t even have to have the host computer turned on. It’s as “plug `n’ play” as it gets.
Opcode has also just released their new Vision DSP, an integrated music and audio production package for the Macintosh that adds to the already powerful Vision suite of products a variety of new features, including support of VST audio plug-in products, a vast array of user-interface enhancements, and a digital EQ.
