Dumm-Dumms

Oxymaroon

Glass Tube

The band’s name and album title had me expecting some pretty raw punk stuff, but I was pleasantly surprised by Dumm-Dumms’ straightforward guitar pop, the sort of stuff that a few years ago would have been termed “college rock.” Pulling themselves out of what could be a generic mire, the band delivers clever tracks like the instrumental “Shanty,” which has a gentle swaying feel and dulcet twin guitar lead, and “Afraid To Smile,” a peppy tune that’s catchy as all get out. I wouldn’t say that all of Oxymaroon is memorable; however, there’s plenty of interesting material worth investigating. Glass Tube Records, 201 Monte Vista, Charlottesville, VA 22903
