Katatonia

Discouraged Ones

Century Black

Heavy, glamorous doom and gloom. As though they’re in a trance. A state of “Katatonia… “ Each song brings an image of a cold, rainy winter’s day, looking out on a barren landscape. I imagine a woman, recently made a widow, trudging aimlessly through the field, driven insane by her grief.

Every song is like that! Even the “Instrumental”! This is really depressing! Anyone needing inspiration to write woeful tales of gothic sorrow need only listen to “I Break” or “Cold Ways” and you’ll write your novel in record time! This must’ve been recorded on a foggy day in a cemetery!

This isn’t about ennui or frustration, this is about a looming sorrow. A cold, empty house. The windows are kept open, letting the sound of the wind howl though the rooms. Your friends are all dead, you’ll never see them again. Everyone wears black, no one talks. No one cries, they just stare at the ground. There is nothing to scream at for relief, because there is nothing but the cold dirt, and it doesn’t listen anyway.

Brrrr! If you need a shot of depression, Discouraged Ones is the ticket. Century Media, 1453-A 14th St., Suite 324, Santa Monica, CA 90404; http://www.centurymedia.com
