Somewhere in the City

Music from the Soundtrack

Velvel/BMG

I haven’t heard of this film, but if it’s as cleverly varied as its soundtrack, it’s probably worth seeing. With songs by Arto Lindsey (co-written with Brazilian genius V. Cantuaria), Ani DiFranco, the Stubborn All-Stars (“Tin Spam,” one of my favorite songs of 1996), the Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black, Cardinal Woolsey, Sandra Bernhard (who also stars in the film), Spain, and an interstitial score composed by John Cale, the track listing here sounds like an eclecticist’s daydream, and mostly delivers. Did I mention Yoko Ono was on here, too?
