Warrior

Ancient Future

Metal Blade

And you thought classic metal was dead! Here’s some cool classic metal much in the style of old Iron Maiden and Judas Priest… maybe not classic metal per se, but the closest you could get your hands on these days. Warrior is a talented band, the music doesn’t sound cliched, and the vocalist sounds pretty good. What more could you ask for?

Ancient Future is characterized by screaming, loud guitars, and wailing guitar solos; the vocals is not guttural-growls (as if the vocalist has oral cancer!), but gentle yet aggressive, and melodic – actually singing! The songs in general have an ’80s overtone to them; however, the album shows hints of neo-classical, modern metal, and other styles. Lyrically, the album paints a picture of gore and death, typifying metal genre: “Destroy the beast, bring me his head… “ and so it goes in “Tonight We Ride.”

Highlights: “Pray” and “Power,” which would easily pass for classic Priest songs; “Tear it Down,” a fast number, and “Ancient Future,” an instrumental. Metal Blade Records, 2828 Cochran St., Suite 302, Simi Valley, CA 93065-2793; http://www.iuma.com/Metal\_Blade
