Music Reviews

Brothers Donovan and Judah Bauer, known as 20 Miles, present one of the more unusual offerings I’ve heard in many a moon. To call them “unpolished” is a compliment. This record, which is mainly electric guitar, drums, and vocals, was recorded live, and sounds like a bootleg. It reminds you of that low down and dirty blues sound of Lighting Hopkins or Mississippi Fred McDowell, whose “Piece of Clay” they cover. Like everything else on Fat Possum, this is raw stuff. In a world of Hootie/Matchbox 20 clones, this duo is a long drink of cool water on a hot day. Fat Possum Records, P.O Box 1923, Oxford, MS 38655-1923
