This is a refreshing little offering. One of the most refreshing aspects being that despite the deceptive title and deceptive artwork, the music isn’t cashing in on this recent jazz, swing, and lounge “craze” bearing down on us. This compilation is definitely rooted in the now and through its desire to evoke the spirit of past jazz really brings you up to speed on the drum and bass scene – real solid, spacey sounds and zounds. This is the first compilation of recordings from the Substance label; if this is what we can expect from Substance, then more power to `em. Instinct Records, 26 W. 17th St. #502-A, New York, NY 10011
