Loren Mazzacane Connors
The Bridge
Megalon
NYC improvisational guitarist Connors has been recognized lately thanks in part to his duets with Thurston Moore and Alan Licht (of Blue Humans/Run On). In fact, those cats might wanna thank Connors for exposure to his pure vision, one seemingly steeped in New York Irish Catholic heritage and blues, manifested in orchestral layers of guitar that get closer to Brahms than Branca even when wailing.
The Bridge, on new label Megalon, is about whatever Connors had in mind, but the B/W CD cover bridge-girding photograph is an idea supported by long guitar chimes that ebb and flow and occasionally seem as distanced as the view of the city from the bridge. This is urban pastoral. This is art. The history in the bridge, the hands that built, the eventual faults and the metaphor of transport sound in his playing, and since this evaluation is mine, you should make your own.
