Eli Star

Sampling the Future

Thrive

There are times when I have to give props to different DJ’s that know how to mix. Every month it seems I am able to find yet another CD that just alters my opinions of the possibilities of electronic music. Eli Star’s Sampling the Future is probably my pick this month for that CD. This time around, I think it’s the combination of unreleased and hard to find mixes of music I love. The “So What! (Jane’s House Mix)” of Jane’s Addiction is beautiful, and was the track that provoked me to lay some cash on the table and bring this album home, but it’s definitely not the only track worth the money. We’ve also got tracks from Metrola, Lunatic Calm, DJ Icey, Fluke, System 7, and an unreleased mix of Underworld’s “Born Slippy.” The whole CD plays continuously, and you’ll probably find yourself tapping your foot or bouncing around like me. It’s pretty funky at times, but if you like the CDs that DJ Hardware has put out, then you are going to love this one. Check it out. Thrive Records, 7750 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90046
