Terry Bozzio Live In Concert

Video

Drum Workshop

The storied career of Terry Bozzio has elevated him to the pantheon of legendary drummers at a relatively young age, which is to say that there are plenty of musical ideas still to come from this talented percussion visionary. Live in Concert is a new video release ($29.95) from Drum Workshop that captures Bozzio in a solo concert that showcases the complex musical statements of the percussionist’s current compositions. Included in the one hour videocassette are musical styles ranging from African/Middle Eastern patterns, linear funk grooves, a two-part invention and a jazz number with a walking bass line performed on tuned toms. The complexity of his craft can be found in his trademark multi-layered ostinatos in odd-time signatures with contrapuntal melodies and polyrhythmic soloing. This should be a nice addition to the video collections of Bozzio fans, but should even be of greater use and enjoyment for practitioners interested in getting an up close and personal “master class” from one of the industry’s great drummers.
