Godzuki

Your Future

March

Godzuki do a very good job of sounding displaced in time. Their analog beats and sequenced nature remind me of early Ministry (before they went “dark”), while Erika Hoffman’s sweet breathy multi-tracked voice brings out images of both the Sundays and Stereolab. Despite the traces of familiarity, Godzuki do a fair bit of pushing the envelope, especially on tracks like #9 (no song names are given), which features a driving analog bass skronk and weirdly processed vocals. Fresh and exciting; Warren (His Name Is Alive) Defever’s presence on here explains some of the chronodditties, but this is definitely post-millennial.
