Buddy Guy & Junior Wells
Last Time Around: Live at Legends
Silvertone
This, the final joint perfomance of these two legendendary figures of Chigago Blues, was their first performance together in seven years, and unfortunately, their last. Recorded over the course of two nights in March of 1993 at Buddy Guy’s Legends club in Chicago, it’s simply Buddy with his acoustic, and Junior with his harp, but it’s got such a warm, relaxed, and intimate feel, and it’s played with such emotion, it’ll make tears well up in the eyes of any true fan of either of these guys. The brotherly teasing that’s bantered back and forth is genuine, and it reflects the strength of the bond that developed between these guys from their many years of association. Their selection of material pays tribute to many other legends of the blues including Jimmy Reed, Jimmy Rodgers, Muddy Waters, Ray Charles, Big Bill Broonzy, and Willie Dixon. Buddy includes only one of his compositions, “I’ve Been There.” Words can’t do this justice. Listen for yourself.
