Music to Kill For

Various Artists

Side 1/Dummy

Tasty label sampler from the California-based punk and ska labels. While it’s a bit strange to include tracks from other label comps on this one (giving them a chance to include tracks from bands that aren’t actually on the label, but will certainly draw people to this record, i.e. Bad Religion, Bouncing Souls, No Use for a Name, Murphy’s Law, Pilfers, etc.), this is still a good sampling of what the labels are all about. Highlights include tracks from the Independents, Red 5, Screw 32, Los Infernos, Supperbell Round Up (who sound uncannily like They Might Be Giants – their singer even sounds exactly like John Linnell!) and two tracks each from Swingin’ Utters, 22 Jacks (including a great live cover of the Police’s “Message in a Bottle”), Custom Made Scare, and the Smooths. Worth picking up!
