Mixed Compilation

Moonshine

Jump up, get down, and roll! The newest release on the Moonshine label is a consistent thick jungle compilation that has serious club roots. The mix starts off with some great jump up by Aphrodite vs. A Tribe Called Quest, moving into harder-edge dance-floor-ready raga. As you move onto the second half, the night gets longer, the beats get darker, and the bass lines get gritty. Aquasky (new release out on Moving Shadow now!) drops a heavy gut-wrencher smack dab in the middle that gets followed up nice and dirty by Mr. Mendez and Element, reminding me of those Ed Rush style uglies. There is a remix appearance by Dom and his Roland that is definitely commendable, but the true glory goes out to D. Breaks, Kazmir, DJ Teebee, Praying Mantis, and U.F.O. It seems the little guys get grungier, harder, and spookier than the rest. To conclude, the first half is dance until your JNCO’s fall off, and the second half is some ugly, Tek Step, dark, sci-fi, head rotters. And it’s all served mixed with some light scratching over top.
