Penelope Houston

Tongue

Reprise

It would be easy to sit here and tell everyone about how I’ve loved Penelope Houston’s music for years. In truth, I’ve been rather cold to it, feeling it was somewhat lacking in personality and heart. Luckily, I’m willing to give new material a fresh listen. Tongue has turned me into a Penelope Houston believer. The record bristles with energy both positive and negative, while wrapped in lush, slightly incongruous, pop melodies. Houston really bridges the gap between beautiful songstress and in your face bitch, and creates a rather enjoyable record. Just a quick note for all of you Go-Go’s completists, “Things” was co-written by Houston and Charlotte Caffey and Jane Wiedlin.
