Bis

Social Dancing

Grand Royal

Those zany Celt kids are back. Bis, the best band ever from Scotland, is in your face once again with their bratty attitude and early Eighties keyboard sound. Social Dancing , while missing the sheer novelty of their early recordings, is as fresh as it is recycled. The songs are instantly listenable, partly because they sound like songs you grew up with, but slightly warped. You can hear bits of the Go-Go’s, Bow Wow Wow, and Missing Persons in songs like “I’m a Slut” and “Young Alien Types.” But with a few exceptions, the Eighties bands were never as cool as Bis. Bis has the benefit of hindsight, and have been able to strip away most of the cheese and give us a revised new wave sound that’s in many ways better than the original.
