Chevelle
Point #1
Squint
Listening to Chevelle’s Point #1 for the first time evokes a lot of comparisons to other bands – Helmet, Tool, Hum, and such. The fact is, Chevelle (compromised of three brothers from Chicago) really doesn’t cover any new ground, and the comparisons are deserved. With veteran metal-head Steve Albini at the helm, Chevelle created a big sound, but their sound is hackneyed. Songs like the first single, “Mia,” or the instrumental, “Open,” might have gone over well a few years ago – now, they just seem like Xeroxes of a 1996 Rolling Stone sampler CD. The brothers Loeffler are talented and write catchy pop-metal… they just might have done better writing the same songs a couple years earlier.
