Ming + FS

Hell’s Kitchen

OM

Hip hop is moribund, jungle is so ‘97, acid jazz was an acid wash. Only drug survivors still listen to breakbeat, and true jazz is for the fogies. Ming + FS yell “screw that,” and demolish the clichés with turntables, electronics and whatnot. Formally and informally educated in instruments and technology, the duo seamlessly blends styles into something that could often be confused as belonging to any of its components. “Bonus Round” could easily pass for that once-in-a-blue-moon jazz odyssey that you hear on your local public station. “The D&B Beat Box” has got to be one of the most amazing minutes of mouth action on record. Ming + FS are guilty of musical gentrification, bringing originality and respect to sounds that had all the color bleached out. Catch a milestone in the making.
