The Eyesores

May You Dine on Weeds Made Bitter by the Piss of Drunkards

Magic Eye Singles

This is an amusingly complicated musical device, a jerking, juddering clockwork whose workings are difficult to understand but whose net effect is worthwhile. The Eyesores remind me a lot of early Camper Van Beethoven, partly because of it sounds as if they gathered whatever instruments they could and wrote some songs for a lark. “Hateful Morning” sounds like Cop Shoot Cop unplugged, while other tracks take a more laid-back approach, replete with lap steel and accordion – “7 Governor, Rear” is so languorous that I expect the lights to flash and hear a “last call!” any second now. The Eyesores are complicated, but easy on the ears. Folk music for unusual folk.
