As dubious as the term is, a “comeback” of any particular genre more or less hinges on the quality of the bands “brining it back” themselves. During the last couple years, Nuge n’ Stooges-inspired guitar rock has stirred some waves in the underground, thanks in no small part to the Hellacopters, Gluecifer, the Black Halos, and, now, Chrome Locust. Yes, Chrome Locust’s self-titled debut rocks just as hard as and in all the right places (namely, the pelvic one) their contemporaries do. Daresay, however, that Chrome Locust possesses a few iotas more tunefulness? Possibly, but does it really matter? This whole new school of old-school seems bent on reclaiming the Mythology of the Guitar from these Insane Korn Bizkit homies and will most likely do it, so that’s all that should really matter. Death to false rock!
