Orange Goblin

the big black

The Music Cartel

Allow me to introduce you to yet another scorching act who embraces the seventies heavy sludge “stoner rock”. Orange Goblin, like many of the bands on this scene, is from Europe, the current hotbed for the genre, with groups like the Hellacopters and Unida, among others. Orange Goblin, however, has emerged as one of the most powerful, straight-ahead bands in this resurgence. I first heard the band on a Music Cartel sampler which featured “Quincy The Pigboy” (also on this album), a true rock anthem about a teen-angst drug addict on a cross-country crime spree. Ah, to be young again!

the big black doesn’t disappoint, either. Tunes like “Hot Magic” and “King of the Hornets” demonstrate these guys are more than a “one-hitter.” With their dual guitar assault, whether it be fast and furious, or slow and deliberate, the emphasis is on rawk! Also the Goblin is heavily armed with the vocals of Ben Ward, who can wail like Scott Weiland having withdrawals.

If you like your rock served piping hot, then Orange Goblin will surely satisfy. Look for other bands on the Rise Above label via the Music Cartel (US distributor).
