Damien Jurado

Ghost Of David

Sub Pop

This man’s voice kills me. It feels so innocent yet so knowledgeable. So aware of the pain and the shadows. So vulnerable, but strong enough to sing through it all. The guitar work is haunting, and after listening to all of his albums, I can only say that Damien is still getting better every time. Finding out where his strengths lie, finding new demons to vanquish instead of rehashing old ones. Sometimes it feels as if he’s singing right behind me, and I don’t turn around. I just close my eyes and sing along… “…you go out and tell them I’m not the social kind. Some men they are lovers, and others the fighting type… and me? I’m in the middle of choosing which one I’d like to be…”
