The Soundtrack

Mercury

A complement to the documentary of the same name, this once again proves that it’s difficult to have a crappy collection of pot songs. The opening track is an original bit of samplery by Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo, Rugrats) called “Quit Playihng Games With God!”. Subsequent tracks follow a chronological order, from Cab Calloway’s “Reefer Man” through the Small Faces “Itchykoo Park” and Peter Tosh’s “Legalize It” and wrapping up with tracks from Mankind Liberation Front and Method Man/Redman. In between we’re treated to media propaganda on the evils of the weed. Lots of buds and little shake here. I hope they let the movie play here in little ole Florida; with participation from Paul Mabrides and Woody Harrelson, it sounds like a good one.
