It Goes Without Saying

An Instrumental Compilation

Sign Language

A good instrumental to me is one where you don’t even notice that the lyrical focal point isn’t there, one where the music is fascinating in its own right. That’s a good start. While the tracks on here are not the most engaging instrumentals I’ve ever heard, there’s still a lot of great songs. A good concept, well-executed, with the standouts outweighing the yawners. Favorites are from Mercury, Pel•, Sharks Keep Moving, Sunday’s Best, Luke Abrahms, Scientific, MxPx (surprisingly good!), Frodus, Unwed Sailor, and Maremont (Damien Jurado with a moniker). Most are guitar-based, with the exception being the electronic fiddling of Maremont.
