The Concretes

Boy, You Better Run Now

Up

The Concretes have all the elements of a band I would really like. A girl singer, odd instrumentation, quirky lyrics, and hook-laden songs. But unfortunately, these ingredients just didn’t make a satisfying dish. There’s a lot to like about this record. The musicians are solid, the vocals are nice – although not especially potent – but it just never clicked for me. They might be a better live band, or they may improve with more recordings, but for now, the Concretes are a disappointment. A band and an album I almost liked.
