Mellow, laid-back tunes, like smoking velvet light against red light backdrop. Female vocals roll against cool lounge sadness. Reminds me of something caught between the darkness of the Gunga Din and the just-want-to-close-my-eyes-and-sleep-forever shadows of Mazzy Star. The music gets a bit over-dramatic at times, rising it up above both of those bands into some atmospheric world that touches on something almost new age, but if you just skip ahead when that happens, you easily get back into the smoked-out swing. Country road at twilight, last call at the whiskey bar, the glance from a beautiful woman you’ll never see again. If you don’t take the serious parts seriously, the rest of the songs could easily seduce you.
