b. fleischmann

a choir of empty beds

Fuzzy Box/Darla

A collection of nine analog solipsisms, electronic compositions rich in oscillator overtones and wonderfully layered textures and sounds. a choir… sounds right at home on Darla’s roster, next to Flowchart/Flowtron, Junior Varsity KM and Commercial. The line between repetitive and hypnotic has never been too clear for me, but in this case it is out and out gone. However, rather than ending up cold and sterile, fleischman’s forms tend towards the simple and human, short little passages that are more like an android’s happy worktoil whistling than an orbital navigator’s hissing sizzle. “buzz” is the sound of dozing off on a sunlit hammock on the Saturday morning of a long weekend – a stately bass line and bubbling synth-bongos palyfully match wits with a melody line and occasional sonic surprise. Recommeded for anyone interested in post-Kraftwerk German minimalism.
