Burakumin

Early Mourning

Scientific

Listening to Early Mourning, you’ll find the enigmatic duo Burakumin explore the darker side of indie rock, compiling these sparse tracks which invite the listener into the world of bedroom-style recording. The use of patchwork tape hisses and rewinding answering machine recordings on “The Technology Saturday Guilt” all create a desolate atmosphere reminiscent of Sparklehorse, but with less penchant for pop melody. Fans of alt.folk’s more pensive acts such as Lou Barlow’s side projects (Sentridoh, Folk Implosion), Smog, and Palace will dig this collection – just keep the Prozac within reach.
