Slumber Party

Slumber Party

Kill Rock Stars

Slumber Party, an all female band from Detroit who bring to mind more Velvet Underground-influenced thoughts than you would expect a Detroit girl band to bring. There’s also a beautiful guitar pull towards the early Cowboy Junkies, though the vocals are a bit more hushed… softer and stronger. The harmonies drift almost angelic, and do give a nod back to the girl groups of the ’60s. High-school bobby-socked slow dances and black n’ white romance. It’s the sparse but steady drumbeats and the guitar tones, at times, that give me that Velvetsy feel, and it’s perfect music for autumn weather, perfect music for a slumber party.
