Laurent Garnier

Unreasonable Behaviour

Mute

Unreasonable Behaviour is an adventurous electronic album that leans slightly in the direction of techno. Far from being monotonous, Garnier experiments with ambient atmospherics, acid jazz, breakbeats, and a plethora of quirky, distorted sounds and vocals. Unreasonable Behaviour is so variable from one track to the next, the listener never knows what to expect. Some of the musical subtleties will certainly go unappreciated until the fourth or fifth listen. The most impressive characteristic of an album this complex is the immediate accessibility and warmth normally reserved for trip-hop and downtempo recordings. Listeners looking for some intelligent electronic music to occasionally dance to should pick this one up.
