Brothers And Soldiers
This seven-song, 24-minute CD from Portland quartet Tibanna strides the lines between indie and emo (the oldschool kind rather than the “pop-punk + emo lyrics” kind of more recent vintage) and does it well. The rhythm section is tight, and the guitars do interesting things in the background from time to time. The lyrics are definitely in the unrhyming poetry school, but fortunately are not too precious or pretentious. If you need some reference points, I can hear a little Superchunk and Nirvana floating around, with an overall effect not terribly unlike Hot Rod Circuit, but these guys basically just sound like Tibanna. Which is fine by me.
