Live: Stockholm Mix Sessions

Turbo

Thump, hi-hat, thump, hi-hat. We are now in tune to the funky house serenade courtesy of Swedish-based vinyl jockey Jesper Dahlback. The term “tech-house” is becoming more overused than a sampler in Puff Daddy’;s studio, so I will try to avoid the trappings of bandwagon labeling. Breezy and atmospheric fare is the more preferred state-of-affairs, and Mr. Dahlback knows how to get the party started right.

Although the disc says it’;s live, it’;s quite difficult to tell, and with the exception of the applause after each cut, you’;d swear this was a studio mix. Regardless, Dahlback provides the ideal beats for your after-party tastes. A straight-up smooth house mix, Stockholm Mix Sessions includes considerably lesser-known talents like Blue and Gemini Sounds. Dahlback does a good deed and exposes these producers along with his own mixing capabilities on this set, which not overly thrilling, but undeniably appealing.
