Matchless

This latest release from one of Seattle’s finest bands is their strongest yet. Having seen Matchless perform many times, I am amazed at how well this recording captures their live energy, and what energy they have. The rhythm section, comprised of Molly and Kat (who spent time together previously in the band 66 Saints), found guitarists Stuart and Kevin, and together, the four of them have been creating some of the most original and dynamic music on the West Coast. This band should be from New York. The dueling harmonies between Molly and Stuart send shivers up my spine, both hypnotic and heartbreaking, ecstatic and angry. The shifts in mood and rhythm makes your pulse breathe mercury, and it’s like flying. The sonic attacks that slide into serenity slip out of Kevin’s strings, and Kat’s drums speak a language that you immediately understand. This band is an indie rock love song.
