Swinging Utters

Swinging Utters

Fat Wreck Chords

San Francisco old school punk rock that comes out swinging and kicking like an Irish bar fight in the bowery. Mix and match, and take the best of ‘em all. Though they’ve toured with bands like Rancid and NOFX, I kinda see these guys playing alongside bands like Leatherface, and, as they already have, Social Distortion. There’s a definite European style to the punk onslaught, but not British… more like Mike Ness taking a spin with the Pogues. I don’t mean to make these guys sound derivative at all, just saying their sound mixes well with other sounds you’ve come to love. The dynamics are solid, and the vocals create a good balance and diversity to the sounds of the songs. Singing duties taken on by four of the five members (no, not at the same time) gives the album a stronger edge. Also, “Playboys, Punks, and Pretty Things” is just such a great song title.
