Mixed Emotions: Montreal Mix Sessions Vol. 5

Turbo Recordings 2000

Don’t let the Black Speedos, mullet, and pink lipstick(!) adorned by Tiga on the cover and throughout the sleeve scare you. This splendid retro feast brought to you by the Montreal-born DJ/producer native kicks more funk than George Clinton without a shower. Split into two discs, the first unleashes the more ubiquitous tech-house hybrid that?s rocking the discotechques as of late. Collecting an assortment of artists from the likes of V2 and Tresor, the Mix Sessions compliment Tiga’s deck handiwork quite well.

But with that all said and done, the electro-funk bonus disc is the real reason to stay tuned for further groove exploration. A nostalgic, electro tale spanning the ’80s era of pop-locking good cheer to the ’90s rendition of this masterful genre, Tiga slices and splices until the final record spins. After the Miami Vice redux “Crockett’s Theme” fades into oblivion, your emotions may not be mixed, but your planet will have been rocked.
