I wouldn’t be caught dead anywhere near a Tom Green starring vehicle (he’s tolerable in small doses, but 90 minutes-plus? No thanks!), but he can sure chooses good tunes for his soundtrack. If the liner notes are to be believed, Green selected the songs for this soundtrack to his most recent theatrical dud personally, reflecting his tastes as a skater kid in the ’80s. Whether that’s true or not, it does make a good excuse for gathering classic punk rock from the likes of The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The New York Dolls, Agent Orange, and The Adolescents all in one place. For more modern touches, there’s more punk rock from the likes of Green Day and Punchbuggy, Moby’s omnipresent “Natural Blues,” a reworking of Gary Numan’s “Cars” that pairs the ’80s legend with the far less talented Fear Factory, and best of all, the Godfather of Punk Rock, Iggy Pop, cutting a new version of the standard “I Gotta Be Me.” Not a bad little package. Pick this up and skip the movie – I’m sure I’d shudder to think of what kind of visual associations Green’s making to this stuff on screen•
