The Impossibles

An EP with brand spankin’ new tunes from The Impossibles! Yeah! These new songs fill about the same niche as Return. Sorry kids, but the ska is completely gone, and we’re left with an indie rock sort of sound. “Disintegration (Is the Best Album, Ever)” starts off, and is bright and poppy with a catchy melody and harmony. The first line is great: “If feel like drowning/I will drown with you•” Track two, “Get It + Got It + Good,” is the fastest and hardest track. The Impossibles pull off raspy, screaming vocals without sounding like hardcore poseurs or rock god wannabes. “Oxygen” returns to a laid back, smooth groove dominated by bass and inspires you to sway back and forth. The fourth and last track, “Long Way From, Long Way Since,” ends with a really interesting and beautiful guitar part that is best listened to with eyes closed. All in all, this EP shows a mature, and a more – dare I say it? – emo sound for The Impossibles, and I hope this is an indicator of things to come. And do you want to know the best part? There’s a way cool Impossibles stencil included with this album! “It’s like a sticker you can use over and over again!,” the merch guy at The Impossibles show excitedly explained to me. Cool.
