Habib Koite and Bamada

Baro

Putumayo

Something of a Mali legend, Habib Koite is a well-respected and admired figure in the world music community. On this release, Habib continues the trend he has established with previous recordings by synthesizing the elements of traditional Mali along with western music. The album includes a wide range of traditional Mali and African instruments that seamlessly flow into the larger tapestry of the compositions. As I am not an expert on Mali music, I can’t really describe the nuances and distinctions Koite brings to the table. However, I can tell that he brings heart felt playing on his guitar that captivates and intrigues the listener. For fans of Afro-Caribbean music, or for someone interested in expanding their musical horizons.
