Makeshift #2

Various Artists

Makeshift

With the kitschy, homemade-esque liner and the whiteout and painted cover, what’s inside is even more important. On Makeshift #2, bands such as Johnny Romania croon songs that make me think of indie-cool boys with low slung pants and big vintage glasses. Jetty Webb, hip hoppers Genesis Experiment, Verve-sounding Liftoff, and Snowglobe make this album a tribute to anyone who has ever been any part of a true garage band. The squeaky guitars, the thoughtful lyrics (actually written by the bands performing them!), and the handmade, home cooked attitude make me feel as if I’ve uncovered a bizarre gem of a CD (and I really have).
