Migala

Arde

Sub Pop

Sub Pop takes a step away from the rock ecstatic releases of late to give us this solid and drifting, moving desert liquid soothing, crooning and capturing release from Spanish band Migala. Having been introduced to Sub Pop by Looper’s David Stuart, this band moves across the American Plains alongside bands like Scenic, Calexico, and Lanterna. Some traditional sounds slip into the mix, only to be slightly deconstructed with static and sound. Strains of a spaghetti western creep in like a slow sunset, and then when the vocals hit, they almost melt you. Slow soft crooning, aching lyrics that move through Spanish and English, bringing to mind Leonard Cohen, The Tindersticks, and Spain. It brings a tear to your eye, but a smile to your heart.
