Milemarker

Anaesthetic

Jade Tree

At their best, Milemarker sound like a Devo-Fugazi hybrid, with guitar riffage, keyboards, and nice rock drumming to keep things moving along. These ingredients all come together especially well on “Shrink To Fit” and “A Quick Trip to the Clinic.” Male-female vocal tradeoffs add nicely to the quirkiness.

On the downside, Milemarker’s songs can be tediously long and repetitive. The female vocalist, when singing by herself, tends to stray into semi-operatic territory, which just doesn’t do it for me in a rock context, or any context for that matter.

Overall, Anaesthetic isn’t a bad record, just not compelling enough to me to warrant repeated listenings.
