The Firebird Band

The Drive

Cargo

Former Braid man Christopher Broach takes off in another direction, pulling out a dark synth-pop sound that owes more to early Cure than it does to his former band, or any of those emo-rock outfits that flew alongside it. A little more straightforward and moving through nighttime highways than the previous album, The Drive, with only five songs, still manages to capture a unique and emotional airwave. It’s like taking a picture out the window of a moving car at dusk. It’s like leaving what you love behind, and feeling the weight of the cities as you sing through them. Capturing the past and melting it into the future, tying it together with poetry and open eyes.
